This vintage to antique flask was meant for a ladies sandwich case. The manufacture has an interesting history. The silver wash is marked for the John Yates and Sons Company, England and the hinge is marked A&NCSL. This mark stands for the Army and Navy Cooperative Society Limited. The company was started in about 1871 by army and navy officers. They manufactured pieces to be used by their members in their personal lives at affordable prices. We have never seen a piece marked like this. The flask has seen some unique times because the glass flask mouth is significantly chipped and the base is somewhat chipped. The silver washed bayonet cap tightens well, but, because of the chips, with vigorous shaking it will leak.  It will sit upright and if filled 3/4 full could work as a useable flask. It would make a great conversation piece as part of a collection. It measures 4 7/8" tall, 1 1/2" side to side and 1/2" wide.
